DESCRIPTION:Haymarket & Belgrave Gate – A Roundabout Walk \n\n\n\nSaturday 10th October \n\n\n\nLearn about these two roads that make up one of the major routes into Leicester. \n\n\n\nHear about perhaps Leicester’s most recognisable landmark\, and the hotels that used to stand nearby. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn our walk towards Belgrave Circle\, you will be told about the very many ‘big stars’ of the day that frequented Leicester’s entertainment ‘hot spots’\, yet more about some of the local pubs\, and hear that a World famous singer & piano player performed one of his early gigs in the late 1960’s near to this roundabout! \n\n\n\nThe area was not all glamour and glitz. SUMMARY:Our Christmas Walk – Some Leicester Chapels
DESCRIPTION:200 years ago\, the role of faith in peoples’ daily lives\, and its place in the community\, was prominent\, with the non-conformist chapels\, between them attracting greater congregations than the Church of England. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a pre-Christmas walk around some of the beautiful non-conformist chapels and churches of the nineteenth century and explore the links between faith\, politics and society. \n\n\n\nThe walk will finish at Bishop Street Methodist Chapel. \n\n\n\nPlease note the slightly earlier start time than normal.
