SUMMARY:Deco\, Neo & Moderne – Leicester’s Surprisingly Rich Building Heritage
DESCRIPTION:Starting from the top of Nelson Street at the junction with Upper Nelson Street\, we will walk down to and along the length of Charles Street and on to Belgrave Gate learning about some of the very many 20th century buildings along these two important Leicester thoroughfares. \n\n\n\nMany may feel that these two streets are not architecturally interesting but they are! \n\n\n\nWe are delighted that Mike Taylor\, conservation specialist\, urban historian and author of the book ‘The Quality of Leicester’ will be leading this walk. \n\n\n\nLed by Mike Taylor \n\n\n\nStart at 10.00am from Nelson Street\, off London Road. \n\n\n\nFinish at approximately 12.00pm outside Kingstone\, on Belgrave Gate.

SUMMARY:Gallowtree Gate and Granby Street
DESCRIPTION:Starting from near The Clock Tower we will walk along both streets learning about the varied history of the buildings and those who used them. \n\n\n\nLearn about the grim reality for some who were transported along these streets\,  hear about the very many famous people who stayed adjacent to a local ‘jitty’\, and an unpleasant world first. \n\n\n\nReminisce about buying Christmas party dresses\, enjoying afternoon tea at a long gone shop\, a non-flying pelican\, a two-necked swan and an umbrella. \n\n\n\nThese two streets really do have a great deal of interesting and surprising history. \n\n\n\nThis is a linear walk and will finish near the YMCA. \n\n\n\nLed by James Gunn \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStart at 10.30am near The Clock Tower \n\n\n\nFinish at approximately 12.30pm.
