Victorian Leicester – A Townscape to Cherish
July 25 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
We are delighted to be running this guided walk with our friends from the Victorian Society.
In 1994, the Leicester Group of the Victorian Society published Richard Gill’s ‘Walks Through Victorian Leicester’. Some 30 years later, how is the Victorian townscape that Richard described so well faring? The Leicester Group’s Colin Hyde and Peter Ellis will lead a walk through the city centre, following Richard Gill’s trail, and we will discover what survives and what this can tell us about Victorian Leicester.
We will hear about Leicester’s first Arts & Crafts influenced office, also about a building overlooking Town Hall Square that became a cause celebre in the 1970s when developers wanted to replace it with a modern honeycomb building, and much more.
This will be a circular walk finishing back at Town Hall Square.

Led by Colin Hyde and Peter Ellis
Start at 10.30am from near the Boer War memorial, Town Hall Square
Finish at approximately 12.00pm.
