Last month, Leicester Civic Society delivered three walks for children from Inglehurst Junior School in the Newfoundpool area of the city. The walks were led by Jim McCallum, who was kindly assisted by other members of the LCS Committee. This is the second school to benefit from our ‘History of Where I Live’ project, where we create bespoke walks for children around the area where they live and go to school, introducing them to local history and hopefully giving them a better understanding and sense of belonging for the place that is their home. Earlier this year, we led three walks for children at St Joseph’s Academy in Netherhall. To date, nearly 200 primary children from Leicester have enjoyed an LCS history walk around their area guided by Jim.
If you would like to be involved in this project in future, as a walk researcher and guide, or you may be a teacher who would like us to come ot your school. They are enormous fun for everyone who has taken part. Please email me, Burt McNeill, chair@leicestercivicsociety.org.uk
