As reported in the Leicester Mercury on Monday of this week, a new proposal for Leicester Market and the marketplace has been presented by the City Mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby.
Details are in the link below.
Following representations by market traders, the council have revised their earlier plan to make the whole marketplace an open space, thus creating a European-styled piazza in the heart of the city, and relocating the market – a plan strongly supported by Leicester Civic Society.
The city council is now proposing a hybrid scheme that would see Leicester’s market return to its old site while also creating a new event space over the southern section of the marketplace. What is hoped will become a focal point for festivals, events and celebrations. To get a perspective, it is best to view the images on the link. Leicester Civic Society are considering the plans and will present our view in due time.
This is such an important site in our city that we urge you to contribute to the consultation. The council listened before, so please help shape the future of Leicester. Click on the link below.
