Charny and North Highfields Walk

Meeting at Charnwood Primary School, we will mourn the loss of the Charney, where Wilko’s started as a hardware shop in 1933, and walk through South Highfields to the Goddard masterpiece, Melbourne Hall. You will see a cinema that is now a mosque, Victorian middle-class housing, the first Polish church in Leicester and some maybe not-so-good modern stuff. Learn about the local schools and businesses and why Highfields got its name.
Led by Peter Kilty. Start at 10.30 am from Charnwood Primary School on the corner of Nedham Street and Upper Charnwood Street. Finishes at 12.30 pm
