Saturday 21st June 2025, 1 pm – 3 pm at the Globe Public House
Our members’ AGM will be held in the upstairs room of The Globe public house on Silver Street in Leicester city centre – a suitably historic venue. The upstairs bar will be open for refreshments.
1 pm start with Society business, reports, election of officers, and then there will be an opportunity for members to raise other matters.
2 pm, we are delighted to announce that Colin Hyde will give an illustrated talk: ‘Ghost Signs of Leicestershire’.
Leicester contains many painted wall advertisements, aka ‘ghost signs’, dating from the early to mid-twentieth century (with some earlier examples). We have been documenting the ghost signs of Leicester over the last decade, as useful sources of information about former businesses and industries within the city, as well as for their aesthetic value and in recognition of their ephemeral nature.
