A new print and online magazine is being launched this July, aimed at bringing the fascinating history of Leicester and Leicestershire to a broader audience.
The 52-page magazine, named Leicestershire History, is being published by the Leicestershire Archaeological & Historical Society (LAHS), and will act as an introduction to the many stories, people, places and objects that form our collective past. In tone it will be engaging and knowledgeable, but not academic.

Issue 1 contains eleven articles, ranging from the Iron Age to the 20th century. Contributors range from curators at the British Museum to archaeologists, and from professional historians to heritage professionals, plus a former BBC war correspondent.
“The LAHS already produces two publications,” says magazine editor Joe Hall. “One is a journal and the other a collection of essays, so a publication which appeals to a broader audience seemed like an obvious next step. Plus, we can all only benefit from the wider public being more knowledgeable about, and engaged with, the past all around them.”
Initially the magazine will be published every 6 months, with the print version costing £5.99 and the online version £3.00. As well as being available by subscription, it can also be purchased in many museum and visitor centres around the city and county.
