Leicester Civic Society, founded in 1971, has planned a day of celebration, to be held in the beautiful St Mary de Castro Church. There will be the opportunity to look around this ancient Grade 1 listed church, located within the former Bailey of Leicester Castle, as well as discuss the activities of the LCS.

10.30 am – Heritage Walk.
12.30 pm N.B. (This walk starts at the Thomas Cook statue just below the London Road Railway Station)

2.30 pm “Homes Fit for Heroes” A talk by Ned Newitt on the provision of quality council housing in Leicester after the First World War.

4.30 pm “Kenneth Browne’s Townscape of Leicester” A talk by Mike Taylor ( Author, Quality of Leicester)
5..00 pm Leicester Civic Society Awards:
1. Best Heritage Restoration (Heritage Award)
2. Best New Building Design (Design Award)
3 .The Best Heritage Champion in Leicester (The Stuart Bailey Award)
5.45 pm- 50th Anniversary buffet.
